A guide to Copper Conductive Tapes

Copper conductive tapes, as the name suggests, are made from copper foil and possess one adhesive surface which allows it to be attached to a component or surface. These are easy to handle and cut and are rolled into shape to resemble a regular insulation tape. The color may vary, but the surface is generally more glossy and shiny than a regular insulation tape.

What are these tapes used for?

The basic expectation of these tapes is in EMI shielding. EMI or electromagnetic induction is associated with every electric circuit. Electric circuits that are specifically designed for applications are known to possess several reactions to static charges and interference from other circuit components. The entire action of the circuit is affected when one or more components are affected by charges from other components in proximity with it.

Copper conductive tapes have a copper foil and a conductive adhesive. They have very low resistance to electricity, and hence allow the static charges to be removed effectively from the location.

There are four varieties of copper conductive Kapton tape. The difference between the four types of tapes is dependent on their thickness. However, the price range of all of them is extremely nominal. The standard copper conductive Kapton tapes are packaged in 3″ core roll and are 36 yards long. These copper tapes are manufactured to meet the stringent needs of different environments and applications. Excellent testing and quality control accompanied by accurate process control is the reason for their consistently high quality. Money spent on copper conductive Kapton tapes are worth spent as they always give you a true value for your money.

Applications of copper conductive tapes

Copper conductive tapes conduct the static charges away from the section and return the circuit operation to normal. Copper is a good conductor of electricity and can work on the stray charges and take them away from the site where they can cause any potential damage.

Copper conductive tapes are also used in grounding circuits. They tie the analog and digital grounds and remove the excess charges that are generated as a result of power supply fluctuations or component deviations, thereby protecting the board from any unexpected damage due to these variants.

Copper conductive kapton POLYIMIDE TAPE is also used in point to point electrical contact. They also offer RFI/EMI shielding.

Advantages of using copper conductive tapes

There are various types of copper conductive tapes available in the market today. Some of them are double coated, whereas others have a single adhesive surface. The selection of the ideal type would depend on the application for which it is to be used.

This POLYIMIDE TAPE has a very low electrical resistance, and hence can be used in any application that requires the draining of static charges or currents away from the site where they are generated. By performing this action, they reduce the potential for damage to the board.

These can be easily cut to size and used where it is required. Since the adhesive that is used in conjunction with these tapes is also conductive, it ensures that maximum flow of charges occurs and the device is saved from damage due to unwanted signals.

Copper is resistant to temperature variations. Hence, this tape can be used in a range of applications that are affected by temperature. As a result, the temperature changes will not cause significant damage to the tape and it can be used for a longer duration of time, when compared to other similar products. It is used in the electronics industry in both big and small applications. Since it is available in various foil lengths and thicknesses, it isn’t difficult to find a tape that is suitable for the concerned application.
